The catalog lists works that Malbork Castle lost from its collection during the second world war. The first volume covers paintings, prints and drawings and separates them into works lost completely, lost to other museums and remaining in the collection.

The first, most numerous, group is only illustrated by old photos and reproductions from which we still know what the lost art looked like. For the design we used the X-symbol to signify lack and loss. The symbols appear in several sizes and the biggest ones on the cover and title spreads hide parts of the works of art that have disappeared. The X on the cover is printed with metallic foil.
