Forest: A Shelter for Victims, a Crime Hiding Place is a temporary exhibition that opened in the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk for the 85th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II. It presents the fate of Polish forests and people working there during this conflict. We also designed the catalog and gift shop souvenirs for the event.
The exhibition presents historical and biographical content as well as works of art – including by Magdalena Abakanowicz, Łukasz Surowiec, Wilhelm Sasnal – into a multi-layered story that tells not only about the tragedy and struggle of individual people, but also about the ecological cost of armed conflict.
The spatial design and arrangement of the exhibition were created by Biurokreacja. For the graphic design we used symbolic references to forest spaces, vertical shapes and tree shadows.
In addition to the exhibition's visual identity and typography, we also designed souvenirs based on natural materials and motifs: a notebook, a pin, a tote bag, a pencil and a pine seedling packaging. In keeping with the ecological theme the catalog was printed on paper that meets Cradle to Cradle standards and its cover – on recycled paper containing grass. The die-cut title on the cover shows a fragment of one of the photos from the exhibition with people hiding in the forest.
